LED – the ultimate tree hugger

Did you know LED light bulbs use less electricity than normal bulbs and halogen bulbs? Of course you did. But maybe you didn’t know that LEDs have more than just their low energy usage going for them.

LEDs don’t contain ANY hazardous products, which makes them a pleasant change for the environment, which is so used to taking a battering from our luxurious lifestyles.

It also helps plants grow. One essential component in plant growing is temperature. Plants are known to flourish best at between 70-75 degrees and LEDs generally give off a temperature of about 72 degrees. Perfect! Also, by a lower heat being produced, less water will evaporate meaning less water will be used in general, which saves both money and the environment!

In terms of waste, LEDs are ultra efficient. They can typically last up to 50,000 hours (that’s almost 6 years) and therefore you won’t be chucking defunct bulbs away every couple of months and filling up your local landfill. A side product of this being that the longer they last, the less production takes place and thus less energy is used up (and you save a whole whack of money). These bulbs are also recyclable so even when they do eventually bite the dust they can be gathered up and reincarnated into your next bulb!

If you love your world then you should love LED. They may be pricier than their energy guzzling counterparts but it’s a small price to pay for a happier and healthier planet.
